The “star-studded visit list” of the White House [story Oct. 31] included 22 visits by labor leader and Obama supporter Andrew Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union. At least seven visits were with President Obama. During the same time, the president met only once with Gen. Stanley McChrystal! What is wrong with this picture? Read comments

Ways students can save

In regard to the story Nov. 4 of Fresno State students and President John Welty involved in a discussion of the ever-rising cost of higher education, perhaps the students should “rollback” on some of their “fees,” i.e., cease purchasing $5-a-day Starbucks lattes, do without $100 Coach clutches with only $2 and spare change within, resist buying a pair of $150 Lucky Brand skinny jeans, and maybe trade in that $400-a-month Audi, for say, something within their budget, for these times, and most importantly, for their livelihoods. A letter written about the mural in the Tower District Oct. 29 found it to be not offensive or out of the ordinary “for this area.” Obviously the writer traveled to “this area” from somewhere, so she would not have to view the mural on a daily basis. Read comments

Regarding Larry Leach’s letter “Race baiting Obama” Nov. 3, one must question exactly who is doing the “race baiting” as a simple Google search reveals that Sen. John McCain was a vocal advocate of the pardon of boxer Jack Johnson, as well as a member of the “Committee to Pardon Jack Johnson,” in 2004. Read comments
