Meditation event set for Woodward Park

An Interspiritual Peace Meditation event will be held 10 a.m.-noon next Saturday at the Woodward Park River View Shelter.

The event will provide instructions for practicing silent meditation.

Instructors will be Veena Kapoor, a Hindu representative of the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center in Fresno; the Rev. Grace Schireson, a Zen Buddhist priest at Empty Nest Zendo in North Fork; and Everardo Pedraza, co-coordinator of Contemplative Outreach of Central California.

Meditators should bring lawn chairs, meditation cushions or benches. The event is free; the Woodward Park entrance fee is $3 per vehicle. Details: (559) 230-9736.

Disaster recovery expert to talk at Visalia United

Dale Kimball, director of Northshore Disaster Recovery, Inc., in Slidell, La., will speak at 8:45 and 10:15 a.m. services Sunday at Visalia United Methodist Church, 5200 W. Caldwell Ave.

Northshore Disaster Recovery seeks to provide spiritual, emotional and physical help to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Knights of Columbus gives away wheelchairs

The California State Council of the Knights of Columbus recently conducted its annual wheelchair distribution in Mexico and California. Included were 20 wheelchairs given to patients at Fresno's veterans hospital and five to patients at Nazareth House in Fresno.

The New Haven, Conn.- based Knights of Columbus, the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization, conducted the distribution with the Wheelchair Foundation.

Oneness Center offers workshop on love

"The Power of Real Love" workshop will be presented 1:30-3:30 p.m. July 20 at The Oneness Center, 1752 E. Bullard Ave., Suite 106.

The workshop is designed to help participants to find real love and transform past behaviors into habits that attract happiness and fulfilling relationships. Cheryl Silva will serve as facilitator.

Altar Community holds summer concerts

Christian musical artist Marshall Pulliam will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Altar Community Church's outreach center, 130 W. Shaw Ave.

Oakhurst Methodist church names pastor

The Rev. Kelley O'Connor has been named pastor of New Community United Methodist Church in Oakhurst. She replaces the Rev. Jim Luther, who was assigned to be pastor of United Methodist Church in Salinas.

O'Connor previously was pastor of Forestville United Methodist Church. Her first day in the Oakhurst pulpit was Sunday.

Peoples Church presents Concert of Prayer

Peoples Church, 7172 N Cedar Ave., will present a Concert of Prayer at 6 p.m July 20, when participants will pray for the church.

The Rev. G.L. Johnson retired in February after nearly 45 years as the church's senior pastor. A search committee is observing some candidates at their churches.
