The economy has claimed another victim among Fresno businesses -- Bentley's Fresh Market.
The store at River View Shopping Center at Friant and North Fort Washington roads closed Friday. It followed the closure of Bentley's Bistro last month.
But the store will reopen 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday to sell off groceries and merchandise.
A sign on the front door says groceries will be discounted 40% and other merchandise 25%.
The business is owned by a family, Tom and Delores Pistacchio and their children and their spouses, Sean and Heather McGrath and Elisa and Rick Hutcheson. A family spokesman confirmed the closure was due to the economy, but said the partners preferred not to comment at this time.
The fresh food market and eatery had done business at the shopping center for three years, catering to young families but also offering an unusual array of foods.
The store produced freshly prepared foods, such as squeezed citrus juices, pizzas, sushi and Italian braciole, which were available for the bistro's breakfasts, lunches and wine tastings.
