Water main break floods Los Angeles streets

The Associated PressJuly 18, 2014

— A water main break has flooded streets in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles — the third pipe failure in the neighborhood in three days.

Gale Harris of the Department of Water and Power tells City News Service an 80-year-old cast-iron main burst around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Harris says 19 customers lost water as a result.

One eastbound lane of Monte Vista Street was closed near North Avenue 54 while crews worked to fix the problem.

Streets in the area were also flooded after water main breaks on Wednesday and Thursday.

A main break was also reported on Thursday in the Silver Lake area.
