The Kings County Sheriff's Department identified a man suspected of stabbing a woman to death in Hanford on Sunday as Jose Hernandez, 37. His hometown was not provided.
Deputy Troy Holsonbake said Hernandez was arrested Thursday after being released from Community Regional Medical Center for a self-inflicted stab wound. He was booked into Kings County Jail on murder charges.
Hernandez is accused of stabbing Mary Mejia, 44, to death Sunday morning in the 14700 block of Jackson Avenue in Hanford. Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said Hernandez apparently tried to kill himself by slicing his own neck after stabbing Mejia. He was rushed to the hospital.
