An Oakhurst woman was sentenced to eight years and eight months in state prison last week for her March conviction of DUI causing great bodily injury, said Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz.
In August of 2012, Tawney Jeffries, 46, was driving westbound on Road 426 in Oakhurst when her vehicle crossed the center divider and hit an oncoming vehicle head-on, injuring two children, Keitz said.
Jeffries was taken into custody after she failed a series of field sobriety tests, and blood analysis later revealed she was under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol at the time of the accident.
Jeffries was on probation for marijuana sales and evading a police officer at the time of the arrest. Keitz said the court took this into account during sentencing.
