Sauna-like morning, but no thunderstorm in Fresno

Posted by Mark Grossi on July 15, 2014

A thunderstorm pounded Yosemite National Park Monday afternoon, a pretty common Sierra Nevada sight in summer. But how often do you see a July thunderstorm in Fresno?

I checked with the National Weather Service records and found three over the last 20 years -- two of which happened in the last three years. I haven't seen evidence of a thunderstorm in Fresno this week.

We're getting tropical moisture coming from the southeast, according to the satellite loops I've been watching. It felt pretty tropical this morning, which is a nice way of saying it was a miserable morning.

The National Weather Service says the temperatures might be backing off a little, but not much. The sauna-like conditions might ease up a bit by the weekend, the forecast suggests.
