A crash on Highway 41 south of Avenal on Saturday afternoon left an 80-year-old Fresno woman dead and three others with minor to moderate injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.

The woman, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was driving south on Highway 41, north of York Avenue, around 2:38 p.m. when a vehicle driven by a 58-year-old Clovis man veered into her lane for an unknown reason, the CHP said.

The two vehicles crashed head-on. The woman was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center two hours later.

The male driver of the other car had minor injuries while his passenger had moderate injuries. The victim's 60-year-old female passenger also had minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
