Man fatally stabbed in east-central Fresno

A man was fatally stabbed in east-central Fresno early Saturday.

Omar Perez, 35, of Fresno died at Community Regional Medical Center. He was stabbed in the torso around 1:30 a.m. outside Ewell's Bar near McKinley and Chestnut avenues, said Sgt. David Ramsey with the Fresno Police Department.

Perez and the suspect, who is not known, got into an argument inside the bar which turned into a physical fight outside, Ramsey said.

The suspect stabbed Perez and fled west through a parking lot and then north on Chestnut Avenue. Police found a bloody knife in the driveway of a residence near Chestnut and University avenues.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid 20s, about 5-foot 7-inches tall, weighing 150 pounds with a medium complexion and possible acne scars.

The murder is the 30th homicide in Fresno this year, compared to 22 homicides at the same time last year.

Anyone with information about Saturday's murder is asked to call detectives John Viveros at (559) 621-2446, Alfonso Castillo at (559) 621-2445, or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP. Citizens who provide information can remain anonymous and may receive a reward of up to $1,000.
