Body identified as California woman

The Associated PressJuly 11, 2014

— Investigators say a body found shot and burned June 30 in eastern New Orleans is that of a 28-year-old California woman.

Coroner's investigator John Gagliano tells Nola.comThe Times-Picayune ( ) that Ayanna Woodward of Santa Ana was identified through fingerprints.

Gagliano says the coroner's office was been unable to locate relatives of the woman.

He says Woodward had been dead for up to 48 hours when construction workers found her body in a secluded area on Michoud Boulevard near Interstate 10.

Gagliano says she had been shot several times and her back had been set on fire, most likely in an effort to conceal the murder.
