Fresno temperatures expected to spike again Sunday

Thursday's high of 99 marked the second day of double-digit temperatures in Fresno. Friday and Saturday are expected to continue the trend, with predicted highs of 96 and 98, said meteorologist Gary Sanger of the National Weather Service in Hanford.

Triple-digit heat is expected to return on Sunday, with a forecast high of 104. Monday is likely to be 107. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday have forecast highs of 105, 103 and 104.

Cooling centers are scheduled to remain open. Bus transportation to and from the cooling centers is free.

The city of Fresno cooling centers are open noon to 8 p.m. and are at:

  • Ted C. Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo Ave.
  • Frank H. Ball Neighborhood Center, 760 Mayor Ave.
  • Mosqueda Community Center, 4670 E. Butler Ave.
  • Pinedale Community Center, 7170 N. San Pablo Ave.
Clovis' Sierra Vista Mall, located at 1050 Shaw Ave., serves as a cooling center. It is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Madera County cooling centers are at:

  • The Madera Rescue Mission, 332 Elm St.
  • Frank Bergon Senior Center, 238 S. D St., Madera, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Pan Am Community Center, 703 E. Sherwood Way, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Ranchos/Hills Senior Center, 37339 Berkshire Drive, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Visalia Transit Center, at 425 E. Oak Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Hanford's Longfield Center, at 560 S. Douty St., is open from 1 to 9 p.m.

The Chowchilla Senior Center, 820 W. Robertson Blvd., is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
