The number of residential building permits issued in the unincorporated areas of Tulare County increased during the 2013-2014 fiscal year which ended on June 30.

The county issued 165 permits for new single-family houses, a 66% increase from 99 the previous year, said Michael Washam, economic development manager.

The overall number of building permits issued, however, fell slightly while the construction value of the projects increased.

The county issued 3,116 building permits, at a value of $141.6 million, during the fiscal year. Last year, 3,266 permits were issued at a value of $135.2 million.
