Porterville crash leaves woman dead

A 54-year-old woman died in a crash in Porterville early Tuesday, police reported.

The crash happened at Westfield Avenue and Westwood Street about 5:15 a.m. when 20-year-old Juan Ahumada ran a stop sign as he headed north. Ahumada's minivan broadsided the woman's compact car at high speeds. The woman was headed westbound on Westfield Avenue, police said.

The woman was taken to Sierra View District Hospital where she died of her injuries, police said. Her identity has not been released.

Ahumada was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.

The crash is still under investigation.
