Fresno County sheriff's dog euthanized, had cancer

Rico, the Fresno County Sheriff's dog, was euthanized Sunday, July 6, 2014. The dog had been suffering from an inoperable tumor.


The Fresno County Sheriff's Office announced that a law-enforcement dog named Rico died Sunday after serving eight years.

According to a statement by the sheriff's office, Rico had an inoperable tumor and his quality of life had deteriorated significantly. He was euthanized with his partner, Deputy Eric Peterson, by his side.

Rico, a 10-year-old Malinois, was assigned to the Patrol Bureau and was responsible for many suspect apprehensions, the sheriff's office said.
