Prep baseball: Area stars collect Cal-Hi All-State honors

Clovis North's Jack Labosky was among four Valley player named first team all-state by Cal-Hi Sports.

Trenton Kemp (Buchanan), Jack Labosky (Clovis North), Jacob Gatewood (Clovis), McCarthy Tatum (Clovis), and Luis Ortiz (Sanger) were all named first team all-state by Cal-Hi Sports.

Tatum, The Bee's player of the year, and Gatewood, The Bee's hitter of the year, made their first appearances on the list, along with Ortiz, who was a first-round draft pick in last month's MLB Draft.

Kemp and Labosky were able to cap strong senior seasons as well, earning first-team honors for the second straight year.

Clovis' Alan Crowley and Clovis West’s Wes Hatten made the second team and Christian Funk of Clovis West and Cody Murray of Clovis the third team.

Also honored were Clovis’ Preston Mott and Buchanan’s Ross Dodds on the All-State Underclass first team. All-Medium School selections were first-teamer Ortiz and second-teamer Anthony Avila (Tulare Western).

Kerman’s Ryan Potter, Minarets’ Conly Biglione and Dos Palos’ Efrain Del Rio were named first-team Small Schools. Selma’s Arturo Aguilar, Minarets’ Sam Reyes and Kerman’s Aaron Walker made the second team.
