Visalia doctor pleads guilty to illegal prescription drug charges

The Fresno BeeJuly 7, 2014

A Visalia doctor pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday to illegally distributing and dispensing oxycodone, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

Terrill Eugene Brown, 61, admitted he prescribed large quantities of highly addictive prescription drugs without medical necessity. Brown also deposited the cash earned from each prescription into various personal bank accounts in order to avoid reporting requirements.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Brown will remain out of custody until his sentencing on Sept. 22. He will face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for illegal dispensing, and a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $500,000 fine for avoiding reporting requirements.
