An 18-year-old man and a juvenile, 17, are in custody after a collision during a street race, Clovis police report.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. as the man, identified as Brandon Dean, and the juvenile were racing east on Herndon Avenue. Police said Dean ran a red light at Temperance Avenue and collided with an SUV, which overturned.
The vehicle driven by the 17-year-old also failed to stop for the light but was able to turn south on Temperance Avenue and avoid the collision.
Witnesses estimated the speed of the race as more than 80 mph.
Both occupants of the SUV were taken to Clovis Community Hospital. Dean and a passenger were transported to the Clovis hospital. All were treated and released.
Dean and the juvenile were arrested on charges of engaging in a speed contest resulting in injury and booked into Fresno County Jail and Juvenile Hall.
