Swearengin is outstanding

July 4, 2014

Fresno's Mayor Swearengin did win her re-election by 75% of the vote. That's impressive!

She didn't call herself "one of California's best mayors," but I would. The nonpartisan Capitol Weekly, a publication devoted to reporting on California government, gave the honor to her.

Mayor Swearengin has led the city of Fresno through one of the worst economic downturns by making difficult financial decisions and streamlining services while working with unions and community leaders.

The revitalization of the Fulton Mall will boost our local economy in multiple ways. It isn't just about traffic. Take a walk down the mall and see how businesses are making a difference. Pulling in federal dollars that produce well-paying, prevailing-wage jobs is a plus.

Fresno will find it hard to replace a mayor like Ashley Swearengin. Let's hope it is necessary, as she is the better candidate for state controller.
