TV briefs: 'COPS' back for 27th season

Bad boys are back: An all-new season of "COPS" premieres at 8 p.m. July 12 on Spike TV. The episode that kicks off the 27th season follows law enforcement officers in Hillsborough, Fla., Palm Springs and Glendale, Ariz.

Out of the cold: "Escaping Alaska," a six-part series following a group of five young people of Inuit, Inupiaq and Yupik descent who risk everything in the pursuit of their dreams as they leave their frigid Alaskan homes for sunny San Diego, launches at 9 p.m. July 27 on TLC.

Joining the team: Florida Georgia Line will make its debut appearance on Nickelodeon at the inaugural "Kids' Choice Sports Awards" at 8 p.m. July 17.

Additionally, a lineup of athletes and celebrities have been confirmed to join host Michael Strahan, including Super Bowl XLVIII champion Marshawn Lynch (Seattle Seahawks) and NBA MVP Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder).

King for a Lifetime: From Stephen King comes the Lifetime original movie "Big Driver" starring Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello, Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, Grammy nominee Joan Jett and Will Harris. Set to premiere in the fall, "Big Driver" was first published as a novella and tells the story of a young novelist hell-bent on revenge after the core of her psyche is broken following a brutal crime.
