Trail Mix for 7/3: Huntington Lake Rock Crawl, Climbing with Hans Florine among upcoming events

It'll be a busy Fourth of July at Huntington Lake, with families out to enjoy the holiday. That buzz will continue into the weekend, for the first Lakeshore Rock Crawl, a four-wheel-drive event.

Qualifying starts Saturday, with the finals Sunday. Registration opens at 4 p.m. Friday at the Lakeshore Resort. Cost is $55 per vehicle.

Multiple classes and courses will be offered.

Climbing with Hans Florine

When: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9

Where: MetalMark Climbing & Fitness, 4042 N. Cedar Ave., Fresno

Noted rock climber Hans Florine, co-holder of the speed record on Yosemite's El Capitan, will share video, photos and other experiences from some of his most famous climbs in an appearance at Fresno's largest climbing gym.

The show is free to club members and $10 for the general public, and includes a gear raffle.

Minaret Mountain with Tony Krizan

When: 7 p.m. Tuesday

Where: Fresno REI, 7810 N. Blackstone Ave.

Local adventurer, author and photographer Tony Krizan will discuss this backyard adventure, revealing hidden beauty and history tucked away in the Sierra Nevada. Reserve your spot online.

North Fresno Rotary Run

When: July 12

Where: Fig Garden Village (Shaw and Palm avenues)

The Run of the Fig 5K race and 2-mile fun run/walk start at 6:30 and 6:35 a.m. A pancake breakfast and sidewalk sale is set for after the race in the parking lot of Fig Garden Village.

Preregistration is $25 for adults and $15 for children younger than 12. Prices increase $5 on race day.

Participants will receive a shirt, goodie bag and pancake breakfast.

All proceeds benefit North Fresno Rotary charities. Preregistration is due July 10.
