Two men rob Calwa fireworks stand, shoot at volunteers

Two men robbed a TNT Fireworks stand in the Calwa area at gunpoint and fired shots at several of its volunteers Wednesday afternoon, July 2, 2014, Fresno County sheriff's officials said.

Two men robbed a TNT Fireworks stand in the Calwa area at gunpoint and fired shots at several of its volunteers Wednesday afternoon, Fresno County sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff's Lt. John Golden said deputies responded to a 911 call at the southeast corner of Church and Orange avenues around 1:30 p.m. Victims told the deputies that two men approached the fireworks stand, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash. The victims gave the men an unknown amount of money.

During the robbery, another group of volunteers approached the stand to help sell fireworks. The robbers fired several shots at these volunteers before jumping in their vehicle and fleeing north on Orange.

No one was injured in the robbery, and suspect descriptions were not given. Anyone with information on the robbery should call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.
