Fire at Fresno vacant home another arson case

The Fresno BeeJuly 2, 2014

Firefighters were on the scene Wednesday of yet another arson fire, this time at a vacant home in southeast Fresno.

The blaze broke out about 9 a.m. in a detached garage at Jackson and McKenzie avenues, near Maple and Belmont avenues.

Battalion Chief Tony Escobedo said it appears someone ignited the flames with some type of accelerant. Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the flames. Fire investigators were en route.

Since May, Fresno has been hit by more than 20 arson fires. Fire Chief Kerri Donis said in May that the city is almost certainly being targeted by several serial arsonists.
