Fresno Pacific takes interim tag off track, cross country coach Winter

The Fresno BeeJuly 2, 2014

Fresno Pacific named Ray Winter as the permanent coach of the university's track and field and cross country programs Tuesday, removing the interim label from his job title.

In charge of the program since March, he led the Sunbirds men to the Pacific West Conference track and field title and the women to a second-place finish.

Winter competed in cross country and track and field at Fresno Pacific from 1994-1998. He joined the program as an assistant and recruiting coordinator in 2005, and also has coached at Dinuba and Caruthers highs.

He has worked as a literature professor at Fresno Pacific and UC Merced, and holds a bachelor's degree in English from Fresno Pacific (1998), a master's in literature from Fresno State (2006) and a Ph.D in literature from UC Merced (2010).

Winter still competes in endurance races and has completed events including the Ironman and Boston Marathon.
