Sanger police arrested a man on suspicion of repeatedly stabbing a woman he allegedly was chasing through an apartment parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

The woman was being chased through an apartment parking lot in the 2500 block of 5th Street in Sanger around 4:10 p.m. while the male suspect was slashing at her with a knife, Police Chief Silver Rodriguez said. Officers intervened and subdued the suspect, 22-year-old Gilbert Machuca of Sanger.

The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment of stab wounds in the neck. Machuca was also taken to the hospital for treatment of cuts to his hands.

Machuca, who police say is related to the victim, will be booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and other felonies, Rodriguez said.
