Congressional post office politics

FresnoJuly 1, 2014

After reading "Alaska freight costs millions" in the June 30 paper, I am appalled at the stupidity of our own government. The post office spent $77.5 million last year alone to ship goods to stores in isolated Alaska!

This was the brilliant idea of a congressmen from Alaska 33 years ago to benefit his small constituency. The article also states those constituents are on public assistance; wasn't that enough? Thirty-three years of millions and millions of dollars.

Alaska is probably just the tip of the iceberg, and we wonder why our post office is going broke?
