A parolee from Crescent City is in custody after police say he robbed two fast-food restaurants in southeast Fresno and then tried to carjack a victim.
Jim Shearer, 56, was treated for methamphetamine intoxication at Community Regional Medical Center before being booked into Fresno County Jail, Lt. Joe Gomez said.
Officers initially went to investigate two armed robberies at an In and Out Burger and a KFC near Jensen Avenue and Highway 99 about 7 p.m. They learned a suspect in a Plymouth Voyager van committed both heists by driving up to drive-through windows and telling the clerks he had a firearm.
As officers checked the area for the van, Gomez said they received a report of a carjacking on nearby Cherry Avenue, south of North Avenue. Officers found the van abandoned in a vineyard.
Gomez said the suspect ran through a vineyard and several commercial complexes, where he was seen by a security guard. Shearer was taken into custody a short time later, short of breath and sweating profusely.
Gomez said Shearer admitted to the robberies and he was identified by victims. Police are attempting to determine if Shearer is responsible for an another armed robbery in Fowler.
