Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a bicyclist and a motorist early Monday near downtown Fresno.

The crash took place shortly after 4 a.m. on Belmont Avenue at Calaveras Avenue, according to Sgt. Carlos Frausto. Police have closed Belmont Avenue while the department's Collision Reconstruction Unit investigates.

Frausto said the driver of the vehicle was at the scene and cooperating with investigators.

Belmont Avenue is expected to be closed to traffic from Blackstone to Glenn Avenues until about 10 a.m. Police arrested a person there who attempted to cross crime scene tape. He is expected to be booked on charges of interfering with officers.
