Highway 180 near Dunlap reopens after fire controlled

Update: Highway 180 near Dunlap reopened Sunday afternoon after firefighting crews extinguished a vegetation fire that broke out Sunday morning along the highway east of the Sierra Endangered Cat Haven, a Cal Fire dispatcher said.

A small vegetation fire that broke out Sunday morning is closing Highway 180 on the way to Kings Canyon National Park.

CalFire dispatched fire crews to the half-acre fire along the highway, east of the Sierra Endangered Cat Haven near Dunlap, at about 11:20 a.m.

Firefighters have asked for the California Highway Patrol to close Highway 180 to prevent traffic from hampering the firefighting effort.
