• Belted: Rehabbing big-leaguer Brandon Belt connected for a first-inning home run and San Jose took off from there, defeating the visiting Rawhide 8-3 in a Cal League game Friday night. Belt finished 2 for 3 with two runs and was hit by a pitch for the second straight game.

• Big blow: While Belt's homer tied the score 1-1, the Giants tacked on three in the third inning before blowing it open with a grand slam by Chuckie Jones in the fourth to make it 8-1, all coming against Visalia starter Braden Shipley.

• Rawhide bright spot: Alex Glenn had an RBI groundout in the first and an RBI double in the fifth inning, when he later scored on a wild pitch.

• Up next: 6 p.m. Saturday at San Jose, with Rawhide RH Jesse Darrah (3-4, 5.72) scheduled to face Giants RH Kendry Flores (3-5, 4.92).
