Editor's note: About the Eye on Education series

The Fresno BeeJune 27, 2014

Students in K-12 and college classrooms across the Valley are using digital devices that give them access -- sometimes for the first time -- to the world's accumulated knowledge on the Internet.

The digital skills and knowledge they acquire will better prepare them for tomorrow's workforce, and to be better educated citizens.

Education clearly matters, which is why The Bee is focusing its resources this year on a series of quarterly special sections.

Today's section, the second installment in the series, examines the impact of technology in the classroom. Districts and the state have made a huge investment in digital devices that are changing how students learn and how teachers teach. But will that investment pay off in the long run?

Eye on Education launched in March with a section focusing on career technical education. In September, the topic will be early childhood education.

The Fresno Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
