A lost hiker from Florida was hoisted out of the Mono County wilderness by a search-and-rescue team Tuesday.
The solo hiker was on a multiday backpacking trip in Cascade Valley near Silver Peak when she became lost and ill. She activated a personal locator beacon and the distress signal was picked up in Fresno County.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter found the hiker, but could not land due to the weather. The helicopter flew to the Mammoth/Yosemite Airport in Mammoth Lakes and picked up an emergency medical technician from the Mono County Sheriff's search-and-rescue team.
They then flew back to the hiker and lowered the EMT down to evaluate her. No medical treatment was needed and the hiker was hoisted out and flown back to Mammoth Lakes, where her hotel room was located.
