A Van Nuys man died Wednesday in a one-vehicle crash below Huntington Lake, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 51-year-old man was westbound on Highway 168 east of Balsam Meadows Sno-Park just before 1 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve. His Toyota Tundra went off the roadway and hit a boulder. The driver was dead at the scene. A passenger, Joel Hodjes, 52, of Granada Hills, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The CHP says drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The driver's identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
