Grizzlies Report for 6/25: Pacific Coast League off day; Duvall called up

The Fresno BeeJune 25, 2014

Back in Fresno, but minus Duvall: After a Pacific Coast League-wide off day Wednesday, the Grizzlies head home on a three-game losing streak -- having lost nine of 12 overall -- and without one of their best bats, as slugger Adam Duvall was called up to the Giants on Wednesday. It's the first big-league promotion for Duvall, who hit .297 with 23 home runs and 67 RBIs in 67 games for Fresno, and came four days after infielder Joe Panik was called up. Duvall arrived at AT&T Park in San Francisco during the Giants' game against the Padres. He didn't get into the game, but he rushed the field after Tim Lincecum's second no-hitter. "Oh yeah," Duvall said. "I went out there and cheered."

Great Timmy timing: The Grizzlies will roll out their 2014 version of a Lincecum bobblehead for the first 2,000 fans through the gates for Saturday's game at Chukchansi Park. Gates opens at 6:05 p.m. (5:35 for season-ticket holders) for the 7:05 game. Also, fans who purchase a ticket before Saturday will receive a free ticket to the Grizzlies' game July 4. Lincecum made five starts for Fresno in 2007, going 4-0 with a 0.29 ERA.

Shuffling home: Former NFL star running back and Edison High graduate Ickey Woods will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Friday's game.

Hit streak: Grizzlies infielder Nick Noonan has a 10-game hitting streak and is hitting .300 (12 for 40) with four doubles, three RBIs and five runs during the streak.

Close calls: After one-run decisions (a win, two losses) in its first three games at Round Rock, Fresno is 8-15 (.348) in one-run games -- the PCL's second-worst percentage.

Up next: The Grizzlies open a four-game series against Salt Lake at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Chukchansi Park, with Fresno LH Mike Kickham (5-5) scheduled to face Bees LH Wade LeBlanc (5-2, 4.06). The Grizzlies go back on the road Monday through Thursday to face the River Cats at Raley Field in Sacramento before returning July 4 -- fireworks extravaganza! -- to host Tacoma and begin a seven-game homestand.
