Fresno police are looking for a man who attacked a woman in her east-central Fresno home, slashed and tried to rape her before she escaped to a neighbor's house and called police.

The attack happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 3200 block of North Ezie Avenue, near the intersection of Shields and Fowler avenues, said Lt. Joe Gomez. The woman told police she had just parked her vehicle and went inside her home when a man confronted her near the back door of the house. He had a knife and a bandanna covering part of his face, and he grabbed the woman and shoved some clothing in her mouth to keep her from yelling for help.

The woman grabbed a phone, and the man started to pull off her clothes, threatening her with the knife and cutting her superficially on her face and upper body.

The woman was able to break free and escape out the front door to a neighbor's house, where police were called. The man fled out the back and through Melody Park.

The suspect was described as a Caucasian or Hispanic man, 24 to 29 years of age, 230 pounds with very short hair or possibly shaved bald, wearing a white T-shirt and black gloves, a red bandanna covering the lower portion of his face, tattoos up and down both arms and a tear drop tattoo below his right eye. The suspect was also armed with a knife with a gold handle.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867, where they can remain anonymous and receive up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
