Health, wealth of agriculture

June 24, 2014

Detroit doesn't exist without Ford and General Motors.

Silicon Valley isn't the same without Google and Apple.

Fresno County would crumble without agriculture.

And the agricultural economy would collapse without farmworkers.

Manuel Cunha's opinion in The Bee (June 19) makes sense. Our farms and our county simply won't thrive without ag workers, and if these hard workers are sick and can't support the No. 1 economic engine in the county, then our region and country will suffer.

These workers help create the wealth; they deserve better health. Fresno County needs to do all it can to provide health care for these workers, like keep the Medically Indigent Services Program and work with Sacramento to provide health care for all.
