Sunnyside golf pro Steve Pellegrine stays alive at PGA national event

June 24, 2014

Sunnyside golf pro Steve Pellegrine made the second and final cut at the PGA Professional National Championship despite his worst round of the tournament.

Pellegrine shot a 7-over 79 during the third round Tuesday after recording nine bogeys, including five on the front nine, to tumble 39 spots.

Still, he advanced to today's final round after finishing among the top 70 golfers. Pellegrine's three round total of 225 (73-73-79) tied seven others for 70th and the final qualifying spot.

Pellegrine was in 31st place after two rounds in the hunt for a total purse of $550,000.

The low 20 golfers will advance to the 96th PGA Championship in August at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.
