Fire in rural Fresno shed causes estimated $1m damage

Fresno firefighters say a fire that erupted at an irrigation pump in northwest Fresno Monday caused an estimated $1 million in damage to a large shed.

The fire broke out about 8 a.m. near the intersection of Tenaya and Garfield avenues, just west of Highway 99 in the North Central Fire Protection District.

Fire spokesman Koby Johns said the blaze at the pump spread to the shed. There was a large amount of machinery, including tractors, automobiles and other equipment inside the building and much of it was damaged or destroyed, he added.

Plumes of black smoke were visible at its height.
