Sunnyside pro Steve Pellegrine at PGA nationals; Watney, Garwood and Glasson fare well

Steve Pellegrine — the head pro at Sunnyside Country Club — was tied for 45th at 1-over 73 Sunday after the first of four rounds at the PGA Professional National Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The event, held at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club, will have a 36-hole cut with the top 90 players plus ties in the field of 312.

PGA Tour: Nick Watney finishes 11th at the Travelers

Former Fresno State star Nick Watney, who began the day just four shots back in a tie for seventh, closed with a 1-under 69 to finish tied for 11th at 10-under 270 at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn.

Kevin Streelman birdied the last seven holes to win en route to a one-stroke victory at 15-under 265.

Champions: Garwood fourth, Glasson 39th

Tom Lehman made a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a closing 2-under 70 to win the Champions Tour's Encompass Championship by a stroke over Michael Allen and Kirk Triplett in Glenview, Ill.

Doug Garwood — a former Fresno State star who competed as Doug Harper while with the Bulldogs — closed with a 6-under 66 to finish just two strokes back in fourth.

The 55-year-old Lehman had a 15-under 201 for his eighth senior title and first since 2012. Allen closed with a 67 and Triplett a 68.

Fresno native Bill Glasson also finished strong, shooting 67 to launch himself 26 spots up the board and into a tie for 39th at 3-under 213.
