Trains compete with airlines

FresnoJune 22, 2014

Re: Phil Bruno's interesting letter of June 19. I have written and had published many letters to the editor in support of high-speed rail over the past decade or so. I believe one part of it bears repeating. "So why are Republicans really against this train? The real reason is that they are getting paid off by the commercial aviation industry, such as Delta and United Airlines, to block it. High-speed rail is commercial aviation's real competition."

For that and many other common-sense reasons, I remain a Republican in support of high-speed rail. In a state with a population approaching 40 million, the cost of air travel north and south is outrageous.

High-speed rail will most definitely compete with air travel from one part of California to another — and win!
