Grizzlies Report for 6/21: Fresno 4, Round Rock 3

The Fresno BeeJune 21, 2014

Duvall delivers: Cleanup hitter Adam Duvall drove in the go-ahead run in the 12th inning with his double to left off Justin Marks and Fresno pulled out a 4-3 win on the road against Round Rock in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday. Gary Brown scored from second base after hitting a one-out single, then advancing on Mark Minicozzi's two-out walk. Duvall finished 2 for 6, and though he did not hit one Saturday, still leads all of Triple-A with 23 homers to go with his 66 RBIs.

Panik just the latest Fresno call-up: Saturday's promotion of second baseman Joe Panik marked the seventh time this season the Grizzlies had a player join major league parent club San Francisco. Other Grizzlies called up this year are outfielder Juan Perez (twice) and Tyler Colvin, and relievers George Kontos (twice) and Jake Dunning. Panik left leading the PCL in hits (94), while ranking second in at bats (293) and games (74) and tied for second in runs (50).

Local connection: Jason Donald, the former Buchanan High star and son of current Bears coach Tom Donald, faced his hometown Triple-A team for the first time in his career. Starting at second base and batting seventh for Round Rock, Donald went 1 for 5 with a double. Donald, 29, began the year with the Kansas City Royals' Triple-A club in Omaha, where he played 25 games. Then Donald had his contract purchased in late May by the Texas Rangers, in exchange for cash considerations, and was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock. Donald is hitting .230 with two homers in 34 games for the season. Donald was The Bee's 2003 Player of the Year before starring at Arizona. He shuffled between the majors and Triple-A while with the Cleveland Indians from 2010-2012 and played in 170 big league games.

Up next: The series continues at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, with Grizzlies RH Chris Heston (7-3, 3.69 ERA) scheduled to face Express RH Daniel McCutchen (2-5, 7.48). Heston has given up just one run in each of his past three starts. McCutchen has allowed a minimum of four earned runs in each of his past seven starts.
