The Fresno BeeJune 21, 2014

Police cracked down on gangs Friday night in Visalia by increasing staffing in known gang areas and checking on offenders to make sure they were complying with probation and parole requirements.

A total of 17 people were arrested on felonies and 11 for misdemeanor violations as the Visalia police gang suppression unit, assisted Tulare County's gang task force, drove through neighborhoods and checked more than 25 Visalia homes.

Officers also seized five guns, a stun gun, high-capacity magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, along with numerous items indicating gang involvement.
