GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD COACH OF THE YEAR: RICH BRAZIL

• School: Clovis North

• Closer and closer: After taking over the Broncos track and field program in 2011, his girls placed sixth, second and third in the Central Section Masters meet before capturing the title this season with the school's fourth senior class. And it required five section gold medalists and 112½ points -- an unusually high amount -- to unseat two-year reigning champ Buchanan. Six of Clovis North's eight state qualifiers return next year, including Masters gold medalists Mikaela Smith (800, also state champion), Rhesa Foster (long jump) and Elizabeth Akindele (shot put).

• He said it: "I'm happy with the consistency of our staff and the development of the kids, that they bought into the hard work. We've been very close (to a section girls title) in the past couple years and they've kept that in the back of their minds. There was nothing to distract them from obtain the ultimate goal of winning the Valley title." -- Brazil
