Mendota man killed in collision near Firebaugh identified

A man killed Sunday in a two-car crash south of Firebaugh was identified by the Fresno County coroner as Jose Cruz, 42, of Mendota.

The crash happened about 8:40 p.m. south of Shaw Avenue. A 1990 Honda Accord driven by Cruz and heading north on Highway 33 crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2006 BMW 325i, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The BMW driver, Ricardo Mosqueda, 41, of Kerman sustained major injuries and was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated.
