3 small earthquakes strike near Coalinga

Three minor earthquakes shook the Coalinga area Tuesday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The first earthquake, a magnitude 3.0, was recorded at 5:31 p.m. about nine miles north of Coalinga. The second earthquake struck the same area with a 2.6 magnitude at 5:40 p.m. The third quake, a magnitude 2.6, occurred at 5:41 p.m.

A Coalinga police dispatcher said the department had received no calls from worried citizens or reports of any damage.

In 1983, Coalinga was devastated by a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that leveled much of the city.
