Fresno State's Tyeler Davison makes a key stop on a 2-point conversion attempt by Boise State's Aaron Baltazar in the second half of a Sept. 20, 2013, game at Bulldog Stadium.

A group of five first-teamers headlined Fresno State's list of honorees Tuesday on the Athlon Sports preseason All-Mountain West Conference football team.

Defensive end Tyeler Davison, outside linebacker Ejiro Ederaine, safety Derron Smith, punter Garrett Swanson and offensive lineman Cody Wichmann were named to the first team by Athlon, which publishes a series of highly regarded college football preview magazines.

The three defensive players on the first team represent a conference-high, with Boise State and Utah State each having two.

Wide receiver Josh Harper was a second-team selection and offensive lineman Justin Northern and inside linebacker Kyrie Wilson made the third team.

The Bulldogs open the 2014 season -- the third under coach Tim DeRuyter -- on Aug. 30 at USC at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Fresno State earlier was named Athlon’s projected champion of the conference's West Division.
