Blood supplies low, Central California Blood Center says

The Fresno BeeJune 16, 2014

Valley blood supplies are critically low as a result of recent high usage, the Central California Blood Center said Monday.

The Blood Center is asking all donors to give at donor centers in Fresno and Visalia in an effort to replenish the community's blood supply as soon as possible. All blood types are needed, especially O-negative, which has only a 6% reserve.

Blood donation takes less than an hour to complete. All donors must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours prior to their donation. Photo identification and Social Security number are required at donor registration.
