One dead, one arrested in head-on crash near Firebaugh

One man is dead and another man received major injuries in a head-on crash Sunday on Highway 33 south of Firebaugh, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 8:40 p.m. south of Shaw Avenue when a 1990 Honda Accord heading north crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2006 BMW 325I, the CHP said.

Both men were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where the Honda's driver died. His name and age were withheld pending notification of his family.

The driver of the BMW, Ricardo Mosqueda, 41, of Kerman, suffered major injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, the CHP said.
