About 600 homes and businesses in the Parkwood area near Madera will soon get a more reliable source of water -- at least the time being.
The Madera County Board of Supervisors agreed Monday to tap water from the city of Madera for the community of Parkwood since the county's one working well is failing.
Parkwood, on the city's southern edge, relies on one well for about 600 homes and businesses, and that well broke down three times in May.
The water usage for Parkwood will be measured by a meter so the county can pay the city accordingly. Customers could also be subject to tougher drought restrictions if Madera's water supply becomes more limited.
The agreement with the city is only temporary, lasting just 10 months. In the meantime, the county committed to repairing or replacing the well.
