Ex-Clovis West star Tristan Baxter second at USA Swimming event

Former Clovis West High standout Tristin Baxter placed second in the women's 5-kilometer race at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships on Sunday at Castaic Lake.

Baxter finished in 1:00:09.59, just behind champion Haley Anderson of Granite Bay (1:00:08.37) and in front of Keene, N.H.'s Eva Fabian (1:00:10.56).

Baxter was also 12th in the women's 10k on Friday in 2:01:12.66. Becca Mann of Homer Glen, Ill., was the winner in 1:59:13.95.

Baxter, 22, recently completed her senior season at Arizona State, finishing 18th in the 1,650 free at the NCAA Championships in March.
