SPECIAL TO THE FRESNO BEE

A 55-year-old woman thwarted a much younger man who tried to steal her Dodge Ram truck Sunday while she was using an ATM kiosk in northwest Fresno, police said.

Lt. Joe Gomez of the Fresno Police Department said that the woman left her truck running near an Educational Employees Credit Union ATM at Herndon and Milburn avenues just after 3 p.m. when Justin Moss, 33, attempted to climb into the truck and drive away. Moss told the woman he had a gun and would shoot her if she didn't let him leave. After a brief struggle, Moss fled without the truck, Gomez said.

The victim contacted police, who began canvassing nearby neighborhoods. Moss was spotted in the Lakes Apartments on 4464 W. Palo Alto Ave. The victim identified Moss as her attacker, and he was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted carjacking. Gomez said that Moss did not have a gun on him but that he had plenty of time to dispose of one.
